Muzeul Unirii

A museum housed in the building that served as Alexandru Ioan Cuza's residence in Iași. It documents the moment of 5 January 1859, when the elective assembly of Moldavia chose him as ruler — a choice repeated in Bucharest on 24 January, which produced the de facto union of the Principalities. Between 1859 and 1862 the resulting state had two capitals, two governments and two assemblies, in Iași and Bucharest.
