The Iași Metropolitan Zone is a development association between the municipality and the surrounding communes. With 452,732 inhabitants at the 2021 census against 271,692 in the municipality, it reflects the reality: nearly half the people who use the city daily officially live outside it.
The communes in the zone — Miroslava, Valea Lupului, Rediu, Bârnova, Ciurea and others — have their own city halls. If you live there, your paperwork is handled by the commune, not by Iași.
