Teatrul Național „Vasile Alecsandri” Iași

Romania's first national theatre, founded in 1840 by Costache Negruzzi, Vasile Alecsandri and Mihail Kogălniceanu — the same generation that would prepare the political ground for the 1859 Union. The institution belongs to the set of "firsts in Romania" that Iași received after losing capital status, alongside the Botanical Garden (1856) and the University (1860). It carries the name of Vasile Alecsandri today.
