Podu Roș is the road and tram junction across the river Bahlui, through which almost every route from the south of Iași into the centre passes. It is not a destination — it is a crossroads. But it is one you will cross often if you stay in the city more than a day.

What is here

The quarter has no sights listed. What it has is a circulation function: it is where the flows from Nicolina, Alexandru cel Bun and the southern area converge before entering the centre.

Tram line 1 — the most useful for a visitor — passes through on the Copou – centre – Podu Roș – Tătărași route, precisely the city's north–south axis.

What it's like, practically

With six restaurants and one venue listed, the offer is a passing-through one: you eat well and cheaply, but you do not come specially. One place to stay completes the list.

Being a junction, it is an area of heavy traffic, especially in the morning. The explanation lies outside the quarter: the Iași metropolitan zone has 452,732 inhabitants against 271,692 in the municipality, and the gap means daily commuting from the surrounding communes. The Bahlui

Podu Roș is where you cross the Bahlui, the river running through Iași from west to east. Unlike in other cities, the river does not function as a waterfront: it is channelled along most of its urban course, and the city turns its back on it.
