Bojdeuca Ion Creangă

The two-room cottage in the Ticău quarter where Ion Creangă lived became, in 1918, the first memorial house in Romania. It is anti-monumental by definition: modest, small, the exact opposite of a solemn museum. That is precisely why it works as the symbol of a culture built in poor houses rather than palaces. Creangă was a schoolteacher in Iași and wrote most of his work here.
